Infra Red Scan Reveals Reptile Skin

Infra Red Scan Reveals Reptile Skin[]Mar 23, 2011
Paleontology is a science that exists almost primarily due to the destruction of the objects it studies. To further probe the artifacts they uncover, paleontologists have used various tools such as drills, chisels and hammers to extract material and information. Scientists from the University of Manchester have just released a paper elaborating on how they were able to make element-specific maps using Infra Red tools which did not penetrate or change the fossil in any way. Their result: one of the first glimpses into pattern on the skin of a reptile from 50 million years ago.
