    Spheres in another dimension just don't act like spheres. That's exactly what John Milnor of the Institute for Mathematical Sciences at Stony Brook University in New York was recognized for in receiving the Abel prize by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.

Explaining how geometry works in higher dimensions would best be left to the expert, so I'm including the following video:
